A digital to do list for 2011

17 December 2010

After our recent news about the uplift in online retailing, the success of some of this year's social media campaigns and the speed with which you can now intuitively search the web, there has never been a better time for organisations, large and small, to harness the opportunities and potential of the web.

But the question we are often asked is 'where do I start?'. Here are our top five tips for digital success in 2011:

  1. Go Mobile. Building a mobile interface for your website is easy to do, and is not just territory for large organisations. More and more people are browsing the web through mobile devices such as ipads and iphones rather than through a traditional computer. Retailers of all shapes and sizes can develop a platform in a matter of moments, but if you need a hand, why not give us a call?
  2. Be Inclusive. Given the upward trend of mobile devices, consider the make up and build of your site and ensure that it remains intuitive and logical irrespective of how, when and where your site is viewed. Too much Flash will be off-putting for mobile device users, but it is essential if you specialise in online gaming. Knowing your audience will help you and your web partner build the best possible solution.
  3. Start E-retailing. If you are a retailer, do not miss the opportunity to attract new and existing customers online. With more and more people heading online to shop, there has never been a better time to increase the size and scale of your business in a controlled, purposeful way.
  4. Make Friends. Take a good hard look at your brand, and examine the opportunities to allow a larger number of people to interact and share in your ideas, products and services through social networking. Sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are just too established and popular to be ignored.
  5. Make Time. Enjoying all that the web and digital media have to offer is now a critical component of any business. Rather than seeing it as simply a discreet marketing activity, make time to exploit all that it has to offer. Regular news feeds from us should help you keep up to date with all the trends, the next step is just to simply ask 'what does this mean for my customers and my business?' We are always here to help articulate those answers into tangible business results.

Roll on 2011!
