Disabilities Discrimination Act (DDA)

One of the aims of the Disabilities Discrimination Act (DDA) is to end the discrimination that many disabled people have to encounter in all aspects of life.  The areas that the Act gives those with disabilities rights in are:

  employment
  education
access to goods, facilities and services
buying or renting land or property

For those UK organisations that have a public-facing website, they are legally obliged to make that site accessible to all.  Compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act is not only a legal issue but a commercial one.  The Disability Rights Commission has noted that accessible, easy to navigate websites are 35% more likely to attract able-bodied users.
