A new feature for Google Maps is Earth view. Available via a browser plug-in, it gives users the option to view the world in 3D.
The ability to look at famous landmarks in 3D is certainly arresting - but some places look more convincing than others. Some of the views don't incorporate as much of the 3D perspective as you would think - the Statue of Liberty image in itself is stunning, but the backdrop is flat and lacks the rest of the New York skyline. However, taking Earth view at face value, it engages the user and demonstrates yet more functionality that Google is bringing to the internet.

Other news sites have also reported on Google's latest new feature and provide further images.
More information can be found on the official Google Blog which also provides links to access the plug-in.
