Metatag optimisation

Metatag optimisation

In addition to search engine optimisation and pay per click advertising, you can maintain your ranking on search engines by adding optimised metatags to each page of your website's design.  Building metatag optimisation into your  marketing strategy and incorporating metatag optimisation into the website development process will ensure your site benefits from sustainable traffic and high quality business enquiries at a low cost.

These metatags can be broken down into 3 main headings:

  • Title tag - This is the most important tag that is used as the link to your site on the search engine results and is displayed on the top bar of your browser window when viewing the site.  The words used in the Title tag are very important so it should be as descriptive as possible and.  Title tags should also focus on the main search terms, with each tag varied throughout the site to relate to the page content.
  • Description tag - This tag lets you control what appears as the summary of your web page and will be displayed after the title of your website on the search engine listing.  It must tell the reader what they will find on the website.  Filling the description with as many keywords as possible will help search engines find your website.
  • Keywords tag - This tag is less important as the main search engines tend not to look at the content within this tag.  However, it is still worth listing the main search terms.
