Last year, the Port of London Authority celebrated its centenary. As part of the celebrations, we were asked to develop their existing site and bring it up to date – competing with the likes of the BBC in terms of visual impact and user experience.
As a first phase, we were asked to focus on improving the functionality of the intranet initially and then as phase two, launch a public site.
The result is both flexible and visually impressive. Using a series of widgets which we designed and coded specifically for the project, the PLA has complete control over content, including the home page layout. The home page is sub-divided into the different areas of interest as well as the displaying of drop-down menus in the main navigation. The coding allows for real flexibility, enabling the client’s team to ‘drag and drop’, expand or reduce the size of the widgets as they choose.
This level of flexibility enables the PLA to keep the site fresh and current. As the website has evolved, traffic has increased. Critically, the PLA now has a site which truly reflects their contemporary role in the community.
