XML
XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a standard set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) for exchanging structured documents and data across the Internet. As a cross-platform and independent tool, XML's primary task is to offer web developers the ability to define their own complex documents.
Examples include invoices, news feeds, glossaries and inventory descriptions etc. The main benefit of XML is that it helps the data sharing process across different systems and enables more complex interaction with digital content. Data from different organisations can be defined, transmitted, validated and then interpreted without the need to be run on the same application.
