Yahoo announced last month the results of its annual competition, judging the best UK websites across a number of categories including ecommerce, innovation, education and just plain strange. The panel of 10 judges were journalists and/or web specialists.
The list of winners were:
Ethical: The Nag (www.thenag.net). A website asking people to "Do one thing a month to make the world a better place". ![]()
Travel: World Reviewer (www.worldreviewer.com). Providing information on destinations, holidays and experiences for the discerning traveller.
People's Choice: Move Me (www.moveme.com). Providing advice and guidance on how to make the stress of moving house as simple as possible.
Educational: Friends Abroad (www.friendsabroad.com). Learn a new language for free by find a friend on the language learning network.
Social: Doggy Snaps (www.doggysnaps.com). Everything you need to know about dogs and all things "pooch", with forums and photos.
Weird and Wonderful: Faces in Places (www.facesinplaces.co.uk). A social networking site enabling people to post pics of themselves and their favourite haunts...
Charity: Free Rice (www.freerice.com). For every correct answer to a word game, the site will donate grains of rice under the UN World Food Program.
Shopping: Nigel's Eco Store (www.nigelsecostore.com). Online store for environmentally friendly gifts and products.
