Following on from the success of our first Technology Talks event held earlier this year, we were very excited to be able to host our second event aimed to give our guests innovative and strategic ideas from a business development point of view and how to not to fall behind in the ever-changing digital world.
With special thanks to the Port of London Authority for allowing us to use its venue again, we were very lucky to have two fantastic guest speakers lead the night, Susannah Schofield, who is head of new business and deputy group sales director for the Royal Mail PLC and director of her own company, Dice Maxtrix Consulting and Phil Beavan, senior account manager with Xero.
After the initial introduction and welcome drinks we all headed to the conference room where not a single chair was left free. There was a great atmosphere in the room - there was a real sense of intrigue and anticipation! Our very own Adrian Brown kicked off the evening with an introduction to the event followed by Sarah Pooley who introduced Susannah via her rather impressive list of accomplishments!
Susannah’s presentation was aimed at getting more for your money via the use of clever marketing techniques to improve sales and turnover and getting a brand noticed and remembered. The 40 minute presentation was hugely entertaining yet was underpinned with intelligent argument and analysis. Susannah had us all laughing with scenarios that we could all relate to but at the same time, corroborated consumer behaviour with scientific data. It really gave an insight into the consumer market and the tell-tale signs that are often used as marketing strategies to get us buying into a brand or a product.
After a quick break with time to digest Susannah’s presentation, it was the turn of Phil Beavan. The emphasis was upon the reality of digital and if you are not up to date then you will fall quickly behind everyone else! His quick punching ‘no-nonsense’ style made you instantly open your eyes to the reality of digital, the influence of the cloud and how your business is at risk if you’re not open to its opportunities. With facts and figures highlighting the fast changing world, Phil stressed that if you’re not a ‘digital native’ as the young generation of ‘Millennials’ are, you may lose the very target market you’re trying to reach.
Both presentations really complimented each other and we were honoured to have them as our guest speakers.
