King Edward’s is a school with a long and distinguished history, being at the heart of Southampton for over 460 years.
For the last term we have been working on the design and development of the new King Edward’s site, focusing on the needs of the school as well as the user experience. The use of bright bold colours in the new site design makes the important information pop and really stand out to the user.
The homepage is built with interchangeable components which can be easily edited, rearranged and swapped. The site engages the user through use of bold panels, creative imagery and subtle animations drawing the user’s attention to key items.
After meetings with the school, we understood that there was a lot of information to get across to users in the hero panel. To do this in a way that would leave the main space as uncluttered as possible we condensed quick links into small tabs, and the news / event feature the school requested was designed to work off canvas, sliding into view on click only, which would still give articles more prominence, but in a way that distracted less from the main content. An announcement panel was also designed to work in the same way. A key focus for us in the planning stage. We agreed upon a 2 tiered hamburger menu from the homepage to ensure the audience would find their chosen page in as few clicks as possible.
King Edward’s is built on a WordPress CMS, the flexibility and scalability of the software provides our developers with the platform to develop a truly outstanding website. We are thrilled with the result of this new site and look forward to getting the Stroud School sister site live soon.
