Accessibility

Website accessibility has now become a major issue to companies as the government pushes forward its regulations.  UK organisations with public-facing websites have been legally obliged to make them accessible to all since 1999.  A charity called AbilityNet, polled 100 users with disabilities to uncover the most common accessibility issues

Your Accessibility Obligations

Are you aware of your obligations under the Disabilities Discrimination Act (DDA) for website accessibility?  By law, all UK businesses must not discriminate against those with disabilities by refusing to provide any service which it provides to others.  Hence a website should be accessible to all.

PAS 78

New guidelines called PAS (Publicity Availability Specification) 78 have been developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI).  Sponsored by the Disability Rights Commission (DRC) with input from the RNIB, the new PAS 78 guidelines should ensure that websites operate within the confines of the law.
