Dorset House School in West Sussex is one of the oldest prep schools in the country, founded in 1784. We were very excited when they approached us in March 2017 for a new school website design and build.
We were set with the task of designing a simple and modern website that was image heavy, yet still representing the traditional look and feel of the school.
The design uses a series of image blocks which tessellate to make up the homepage. Subtle animation throughout the site really ties everything together, whilst keeping the user interested and engaged with the content.
After we had completed the design we replicated this into 3 different colour palettes, as the school were undecided on what colours would work best for them. Dorset house and mso worked together to produce a colour pallet which reflects the earthy tones in which the school is set in the Sussex countryside but also reflects the school’s crest. The chosen colour palette works really well on the site as they complement the natural imagery used.
Clear signposting on the homepage makes the site easy to navigate, something Dorset House were keen to achieve as the website holds a huge amount of information. We also added a fixed navigation so when a user scrolls down a page they can always navigate around the site from the top header.
The site is built within a WordPress CMS. This allows the school the flexibility to add or update the images, content and components on the site with ease, meaning that the site can grow as they do. This CMS also provides our developers with the platform to develop a truly outstanding website. Take a look at the new Dorset House School website and let us know what you think!
