We're proud to have been working with The Port of London Authority for over 10 years, supporting and developing their main website www.pla.co.uk, their recreational site www.boatingonthethames.co.uk and their internal intranet site. But last year we were presented with a new challenge, to design, develop and launch the PLA Tidal Thames app, a free app designed to provide easy access to the latest information on the tidal river for those with an interest in navigating on the Thames.
The Port of London Authority work to keep commercial and leisure users of the River Thames safe, their ethos, to protect and enhance the environment and promote the use of the river for trade and travel. The app was developed to make planning trips on the Thames easier, providing dynamic, essential data from an intuitive, easy-to-use interface such as;
We have tried to make the app as customisable as possible so that each user can tailor their experience according to their needs. When you first download the app, you will be prompted to choose your default tide gauge, select your preferred district or opt in/out for Events or Notice to Mariners push notifications. Alternatively, should your requirements change you can amend your settings anytime by simply clicking on the Settings wheel at the top right of the home screen navigation.
We opted to keep the design as simple and as stripped back as possible so that the information was presented in a clear and concise way. Unlike the PLA website, strong imagery has made way for icons, to best utilise space and we've introduced subtle animation to contribute to the user journey, without sacrificing usability.
