The Thames Skills Academy is a not-for-profit, employer-led organisation supporting marine-based employers in the Port of London. Founded in 2016 by the Port of London Authority, Transport for London, Tideway and the Company of Watermen and Lightermen, the TSA aim to provide and facilitate high quality and cost-effective marine and port operations skills training.
We were approached by the TSA in the spring of 2016 and asked to design and develop a brand new website that not only communicated their company ethos, but also would help to establish their organisation as a trusted Group Training Association with the Port of London.
Strong imagery of the tidal Thames provides a backdrop for the Thames Skills Academy mission statement and the inclusion of subtle indicators encourages users to navigate throughout the site, without encroaching on the design. Careful consideration has been applied to the hover states, page layout and navigation to incorporate colours and elements from the brand to keep consistency throughout the site. Our design favoured the calming clear influence of the blue for the signposting, flagging of key areas and call to actions, whereas the intensity and strength of the red frames the navigation perfectly.
The use of video helps the TSA to quickly deliver their message, engage new users (and potential members), whilst giving the organisation a personality to really start to build a relationship from the very first click. As such, the user journey has been carefully considered and an easy to use REGISTER YOUR INTEREST form is only millimetres away.
We're excited for what the future holds for the Thames Skills Academy and as they continue to grow, so will the website – so watch this space!
